Private pay care

Don't qualify for Medicaid? You can still get care at home.

Many families pay privately for in-home support — either because they aren't eligible for Wisconsin Medicaid, or because they want more hours than a benefit plan covers. Private pay care is simple: you choose the services and the schedule, and we match a trained caregiver to your loved one.

  • No Medicaid eligibility, waitlist, or county approval needed
  • Start care in days, not months
  • Choose your own schedule and caregiver match
  • Bilingual English / Spanish caregivers available
  • Can supplement hours a Medicaid plan doesn't cover

Personal care & daily living

Bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility support, and medication reminders — scheduled around your family's routine.

Companion care

Conversation, activities, errands, and social connection for loved ones who shouldn't spend the day alone.

Homemaking & meals

Light housekeeping, laundry, grocery runs, and home-cooked meals that fit dietary needs.

Respite & flexible hours

A few hours a week, overnights, or full-day coverage so family caregivers can rest, work, or travel.

Not sure which path fits? We'll review Medicaid, IRIS, Family Care, and private pay options with you on one free call — no obligation.

Common questions

Private pay home care FAQs

How much does private pay home care cost?

Rates depend on the type of care, number of hours, and whether you need personal care, companion care, or specialized support. We provide a clear, written estimate after a free phone assessment — no hidden fees.

What payment options do you accept?

Private pay families typically pay by check, ACH, or credit card. We can also discuss long-term care insurance paperwork and supplemental arrangements that work alongside Medicaid.

How do I check if my loved one is eligible?

Eligibility for private pay is simple: if your loved one needs help at home and you can pay directly, care can begin. We still do a quick safety and needs review to match the right caregiver.

Can private pay care supplement Medicaid hours?

Yes. Many families use private pay to add hours, cover weekends, or fill gaps that a Medicaid benefit plan does not include. We can coordinate both payment paths for the same household.

How quickly can private pay care start?

Most private pay cases begin within a few days after the free assessment — much faster than county-based programs that may involve waitlists or paperwork delays.

Wisconsin Senior & Disability Care

Home care programs for Wisconsin seniors, adults, and children age 6+ with disabilities

Most Wisconsin families qualify for free or low-cost home care and don't know it. Avida Personal Care helps seniors and people with disabilities across southeastern Wisconsin use the state programs they're entitled to — so they can stay safe, comfortable, and independent at home.

Wisconsin Medicaid (ForwardHealth)

Wisconsin Medicaid covers in-home personal care for seniors and adults with disabilities who need help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and mobility. Avida handles the paperwork and gets care started — at no cost to you.

IRIS (Include, Respect, I Self-Direct)

The IRIS program lets Wisconsin seniors and people with disabilities self-direct their care budget — including choosing a family member or friend as their paid caregiver. We help you enroll, build your plan, and manage the details.

Family Care

Family Care is Wisconsin's Medicaid managed-care program for long-term care. It funds in-home support for eligible seniors and adults with disabilities in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, and surrounding counties.

BadgerCare Plus

BadgerCare Plus provides health coverage to low-income Wisconsin residents, and can be the doorway to personal care benefits. Not sure which program fits? A five-minute call is usually all it takes to find out.

Who qualifies for home care in Wisconsin?

Eligibility depends on the program, but you may qualify for Wisconsin senior care or disability home care if you or your loved one is:

  • Wisconsin seniors age 65+ who want to remain safely at home
  • Adults with physical or developmental disabilities
  • Children age 6+ with disabilities
  • People recovering from surgery, illness, or injury
  • Family members caring for a loved one who need support — or want to get paid as a caregiver

Not sure which Wisconsin program fits your family?

Our bilingual team checks your eligibility in under 60 seconds and walks you through enrollment — including getting paid to care for a loved one.
