Personal care assistance that keeps people at home

Personal care is the everyday, hands-on help that lets someone stay safely in their own home: getting out of bed, showering, getting dressed, eating, and moving around without falling. It is the core of what Avida does as a Milwaukee personal care agency.

Every client gets a nurse-written care plan and a consistent caregiver, so routines stay familiar. Our team speaks English and Spanish, and we serve families across Milwaukee County and nearby Waukesha, Racine, and Kenosha counties.

For most Wisconsin Medicaid members, personal care costs nothing out of pocket. We take care of the doctor's order, the nurse assessment, and the Medicaid paperwork — and a family member can often be hired as the paid caregiver.

Personal care services questions

What are personal care services?+

Personal care services are hands-on help with everyday activities — bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, moving around the home, eating, and medication reminders — provided by a trained personal care worker in the person's own home.

Who qualifies for personal care services in Wisconsin?+

Wisconsin Medicaid (ForwardHealth) members who need help with daily activities can qualify, including seniors 65+, adults with physical or developmental disabilities, and children age 6+ with disabilities. Family Care and IRIS members can also receive personal care through their plan.

Does Medicaid pay for personal care in Milwaukee?+

Yes. Wisconsin Medicaid covers personal care when a doctor orders it and a nurse assessment confirms the need. For most eligible families it costs nothing out of pocket. Avida handles the paperwork.

What is a personal care agency?+

A personal care agency is a state-certified provider that hires, trains, and supervises personal care workers and bills Medicaid for approved hours. Avida Personal Care is a Milwaukee-based personal care agency serving Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, and surrounding counties.

Can a family member be the personal care worker?+

Often, yes. An adult child, grandchild, sibling, or friend can be hired, trained, and paid by Avida to care for their loved one. Spouses and legal guardians have extra rules we can explain.

What if we don't qualify for Medicaid?+

Private pay is available. After a free call, we give you a written quote based on the hours you actually need.

How fast can personal care start?+

If your loved one already has Medicaid, care can often begin within days of the nurse visit. If you still need to apply, we walk you through each step.
