The daily support that makes staying home possible

Most people do not need a nurse — they need someone reliable who shows up, cooks a real meal, keeps the house tidy, and notices when something is off. That is supportive home care, and for many Wisconsin families it is the difference between staying home and moving to a facility.

Avida's supportive care caregivers help with the tasks around the person: meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, laundry, grocery runs, rides to appointments, and steady companionship. Everything follows a written care plan built with your family.

Supportive care is often covered through Wisconsin's Family Care, Partnership, and IRIS programs when it is part of an approved plan. Private pay is also available, and every family receives a clear written quote after a free call — no surprises.

What supportive home care includes

Meal preparation

Planning, cooking, and serving meals that fit dietary needs — plus cleaning up the kitchen afterward.

Medication reminders

Gentle, on-schedule reminders so doses are not missed or doubled, with notes for the family.

Light housekeeping & laundry

Kitchens, bathrooms, floors, bedding, and laundry kept up so the home stays safe and comfortable.

Companionship & supervision

Conversation, walks, games, and a watchful eye — especially important for memory loss or fall risk.

Errands & appointments

Grocery runs, pharmacy pickups, and rides or accompaniment to doctor visits across the Milwaukee area.

Covered or private pay

Often included in Family Care, Partnership, and IRIS plans; otherwise available privately with a written quote.

Signs supportive care would help

  • Laundry and dishes are piling up between your visits
  • Medications are being forgotten or taken late
  • Your loved one is lonely or anxious when home alone
  • Appointments are being missed because of transportation

Supportive home care questions from Wisconsin families

What is supportive home care?+

Supportive home care is help with the everyday tasks that keep a household running — meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, laundry, errands, companionship, and supervision. It does not include hands-on personal care like bathing or dressing, which is a separate service.

How is supportive care different from personal care?+

Personal care is hands-on help with the body — bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transfers. Supportive care covers everything around the person: the meals, the home, the schedule, and the company. Many Milwaukee families use both together, and we explain the difference in detail on our personal care vs. supportive care page.

Does Wisconsin Medicaid pay for supportive home care?+

Often, yes. Family Care, Partnership, and IRIS can include supportive home care when it is part of an approved care plan, and IRIS participants can self-direct these hours. Standard Medicaid Personal Care covers hands-on tasks only. The ADRC of Milwaukee County can confirm what your plan includes — call them at (414) 289-6874, or call us and we will help you ask the right question.

Who is supportive home care right for?+

It fits seniors who are mostly independent but falling behind on meals, housekeeping, or appointments; adults with disabilities who need supervision and routine; and family caregivers who need reliable backup during work hours. It is often the first service a family starts with.

Can supportive care be combined with other services?+

Yes. We regularly build plans that blend supportive care with personal care, respite for family caregivers, and chore services for heavier household tasks. One coordinator manages the whole schedule.

Which areas does Avida serve?+

We provide supportive home care across Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Washington, and neighboring Wisconsin counties — 34+ communities in total.

How do we get started?+

Start with a free care review. We talk through the daily routine, what is slipping, and what funding you may qualify for, then recommend a schedule. Most families hear back within 24 hours.
